Andrew Murrison is contacting MPs with the threat of waste burners in their constituencies to get collective action to pause construction. He is implacably opposed to a waste burner in Westbury.
The MP has built a list of more than 30 MPs in the same position on incinerators in their constituencies and hopes that by lobbying ministerial colleagues change can be achieved.
Andrew said;
"The central issue is that we're heading for incinerator overcapacity in the UK. The minister said in the Commons on 14 Feb that DEFRA is currently reviewing how much Energy from Waste infrastructure is actually needed to 2035. I would argue none, but in any event it makes no sense to build more burners until we see the review's conclusions."
"The best outcome at Westbury would be for the Secretary of State to refuse or revoke any Environment Agency permits."
