Andrew has reacted with dismay at news that improvements to the A303 will be further delayed. Last month he wrote to the transport secretary Grant Shapps following correspondence with National Highways (ex Highways England) to say that if the A303 is no longer considered strategic – as implied by the announced delays to single lane stretch improvements – then attention should be given to local safety upgrades that would also limit heavy traffic through villages.
Andrew has received the attached from Mr Shapps (27th January 2022).
Andrew said:
“We seem to be getting the worst of both roads – no investment to dual bad sections of the A303 and a block on the possibility of a roundabout or slip road solution at Willoughby Hedge that would improve safety and reduce heavy traffic through villages because we continue to pretend the road is going to become strategic in some way in the very distant future. That's not okay. I will continue to lobby for a decision one way or the other.”
