Andrew congratulates Wiltshire Council for winning a national award in recognition of its work to encourage recycling. The Council's Recycling: Let's Sort It campaign won the campaign of the year at the Local Authority Recycling Advisory Committee Conference Celebration Awards last month. The campaign managed to reduce materials incorrectly going to bins from 18% of waste to 10% in just four months.
The Council's initiative comes as Andrew has also been campaigning against the granting of planning permission for new incinerators. Andrew has long argued that incinerators disincentivise recycling because they require a constant feedstock and has continually put such evidence before ministers.
Andrew said;
"I am delighted to see Wiltshire Council making such progress on recycling and this award is well deserved. The next obvious step in the campaign to move refuse up the waste hierarchy and encourage a circular economy is to stop the awful Westbury incinerator."
