Andrew Murrison has welcomed news this week from roads minister Richard Holden that the government will award over £150,000 in match funding to Markay Estate Warminster to improve life for HGV drivers.
The HGV parking and welfare match-finding grants scheme was set up to make work safer and easier for HGV drivers when parked up and to increase haulage capacity.
Andrew will visit F&S Gibbs Transport Services today (Friday) at Markay Estate BA12 8FF at 2pm to hear about the challenges facing the haulage and logistics sector and how the money announced will be used. He said;
"I have written to ministers before about the conditions drivers often find in lorry parks in the UK which are generally inferior to those on the continent. I'm so very pleased to see a government scheme that has recognised this and will start the process of improvement. It's a welcome and deserved boost to an important industry.
He added;
"The pandemic showed how much we rely on drivers.”
