Andrew has written to Michael Gove, the Minister for Housing and Communities, asking him to call in the planning application of Barratt Homes who want to build up to 205 dwellings west of Westbury Road, Warminster. Despite this upper estimate, it only has plans to build 61 affordable homes.
Critics have said that the plan would have adverse impacts on the local area including undermining biodiversity, increasing traffic and, as the proposed development falls within a flood risk area, would lead to a loss of water courses increasing the risk of flooding across Warminster.
The proposed settlement is outside the Settlement Policy Boundary and local councils have made plain that it is out of step with the character of the rural area both in terms of style and the density of the planned settlement.
Andrew said;
‘Warminster does not have the infrastructure to sustain both the Jubilee Gardens estate, which is in build, and the proposed extra estate off Westbury Road. There are also grounds to believe that the applicant is gaming the five-year land supply issue contrary to the Local Plan. I have asked Michael Gove to call this application in and hope that we can get the right outcome for our community.’
