I’m truly appalled by the murder of my friend and colleague who was brutally cut down whilst serving his constituents. My thoughts and prayers are with his family and staff.
During the summer I did 32 advice surgeries in locations across my constituency. Whilst I haven’t yet heard from the Chief Constable, I doubt he would want to divert scarce police resources to stand guard over me whilst I meet constituents. However, I have no plans to reduce my face to face contact with people. Meeting in person is an intrinsic part of the job in our democracy as Sir David Amess demonstrated so well. Erecting barriers between electors and elected would be a victory for terrorism.
