Westbury's MP has thanked Wiltshire Council's strategic planning committee for rejecting Hills Waste's plans to build a large waste incinerator adjacent to Arla Dairy's Northacre site in Westbury this afternoon.
Andrew was among the speakers today and at the previous meeting in April when the planning decision was deferred. In the meantime, Hills appealed on the grounds of non-determination meaning the final decision will be made by a government inspector in November. After today's meeting Andrew said;
"The very welcome 2021 Environment Act should be accompanied by a moratorium on incinerators as I have called for repeatedly in the Commons. Draft environmental targets for consultation published by DEFRA in March will mean cutting waste sent for landfill and incineration. Well done Wiltshire Strategic Planning Committee - ably chaired by Cllr Howard Greenman - for showing the way."
